NEW YORK CITY POETRY FESTIVAL JULY 25-26TH

This weekend marks our return to Governor’s Island for the NYC Poetry Festival. The Festival runs from 11am to 6pm both Saturday & Sunday, transportation to the island is taken care of by a ferry, very Whitman-esque. The ferry leaves from the Battery Maritime Building at 10 South Street in Manhattan and from Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park every half hour beginning at 10am. And it’s free from 10am to 11am. Check out the full event details here: http://newyorkcitypoetryfestival.com but you’ll really want to what’s up with DenimSkin.

At 2pm on Saturday, we will be hosting a 30 minute reading jam packed with readers from all over the country who have appeared in past issues of DenimSkin. We’ll also be joined by our pal Coyote Blood who has promised free shots of cheap whiskey to anyone that stops by our table and says hello. We’ll be up to our usual shenanigans (like shotgunning beers, which happened last year) pounding on the old Royal, slinging those shitty homemade t-shirts, and selling copies of past issues. Saturday night the after party heads to Brooklyn where The Sloodge will host a free free free party with live bands including Holy Smokes, backyard wrestling, and more readings from your own lowlife journeyman poets from DenimSkin. This is where it’ll get dirty. The Sloodge is located at 257 12th ST, Brooklyn starting at 7pm.

And Sunday it starts all over again. Join us for a very poetic, albeit debaucherous weekend. And tell your Mom about it.

ISSUE #4 RELEASE PARTY & SHENANIGANS

It’s time to kick off the summer with your favorite scrappy magazine! That’s right babay, DenimSkin’s fourth issue is coming at you in live action form. June 19th, 6:30pm. Dorian Gray Bar, East 4th St. NYC.

This 4th issue will round out our first year of quarterly(ish) publishing. We’ve come a long way since October 2013 when this magazine was only a frustrated email. But we’ll be standing tall once again at our usual haunt, Dorian Gray, Friday June 19th at 6:30pm.

As you’ve come to expect from us, we’ll be rocking the tunes, slinging the drinks (at a discount), readings from the newest issue alongside some of our issue 4 contributors, and a few surprises along the way. *Word on the street is that Oscar Wilde himself will be in attendance to provide witty criticisms for all.* Issue 4, along with back issues of previous releases will be available, stickers, and let’s not forget those shitty homemade DS T-shirts, a must have, great beach wear, tell your Mom about it.

Start your weekend off right, start your summer off right, get underground and represent the unrepresented.

READING IN BUFFALO, NY

DenimSkin is starting the new year off with an artistic blizzard in Buffalo baby! Mike and Brian have packed they’re warmest socks and are heading to the great white north to promote forthcoming issue #3.

They’ll be joined by a handful of Buffalo natives (at Sweetness7 Grant St Location) who have made appearances in our first two issues (as well as some others) along with musical act Bourbon and Coffee, who will be playing sets between readings as well as underscoring some readings with that groove.

There will be light snacks and beverages available starting at 6pm with readings kicking off at 630pm. If you’re feeling spontaneous, take a road trip and meet us there, otherwise help us out by spreading the word to your friends, family, lovers, colleagues, and enemies. And if you’re already in Buffalo then you have no excuse.

See you Saturday night, wear your shenanigan shoes.

NYC Poetry Festival = Success

We want to thank everyone who stopped by our table this weekend. We put a good dent into our book inventory and the word of DS is spreading. We are planning some exciting things for the coming weeks – this summer’s hot so we’re gonna make it hotter.

Here’s a start. Dig this montage video from our 1st issue release party at Dorian Gray at the end of May. Shout out to Fez Empire. Dale Thomas Krupla is so talented it makes me angry.

Join us for the next one in September…

Join Us This Weekend at The New York City Poetry Festival!

That’s right DenimSkin will be hanging out on Governor’s Island all weekend as a part of the 4th Annual NYC Poetry Festival. From 11am-6pm this Saturday & Sunday (26th & 27th) we’ll be up to our usual shenanigans. We’ll be unloading issue #1 onto the public as well as t-shirts all for a reasonable price. Aside from that we’ll be harvesting submissions for issue #2, banging away on an old Royal typewriter – spontaneous poems to be read aloud, come by and write your own – as well as stamping everything in sight and pasting stickers on anyone who passes by. A harmonica, bag of hammers, Sam Shepard, live music, and some digital media may also make an appearance. **Buy Mike a drink and he’ll recite some Shakespeare**

Don’t worry, there will be food trucks and a beer garden with (reasonably) cheap beer to keep you going all afternoon. Not to mention 3 separate stages with live readings from other groups and vendors, definitely worth checking out. Did we mention it’s FREE!!!?!? Well if not, it’s FREE!!!!!

Come by and hang with us this weekend or we’ll get surly and start tearing up the grass. See you on the island this weekend.

Tell your Mom about it.
